Financial Support
Graduate Assistantships: The WKU School Psychology program attempts to provide an assistantship to every graduate student who wants one. Due to financial limitations, not every student may receive an assistantship. Other graduate assistantships are available throughout the campus. In the psychology department, graduate students who hold assistantships might be involved with faculty research, assisting professors with psychology classes, working in the Educational Computer Lab, or assisting with the Psychological Clinic. The amount of the stipends (paid monthly) may vary, depending on the particular assistantship duties. Most stipends for assistantships are currently $8,000. Assistantships are assigned through the Psychology Department Head. A few tuition waivers are also available and are awarded by faculty at their discretion.
Applicants for a Graduate assistantship:
-
Must be admitted to a graduate program.
-
Graduate assistantships are awarded on the basis of the GAP score (GRE Verbal plus Quantitative X overall undergraduate grade average on a 4.0 scale) and letters of recommendation. The minimum GAP score requirement for an assistantship is 2700.
-
Preferably, applicants would apply before March 1.
