Leadership Studies Certificate

Students with a major or minor in psychology can earn a Certificate in Leadership Studies by taking two leadership studies courses (LEAD 200 and LEAD 400), a course in critical thinking and empirical assessment (PSY 201 and PSY 210 fulfill this requirement), a course in human relations (PSY 350, PSY 355, or PSY 370 will fulfill this requirement), and a course in ethics and social responsibility (courses that fulfill this requirement are: BCOM 301, HCA 441, JOUR 301, PS 388, MGT 355, MGT 200, MIL 401, PH 447, PHIL 320, PHIL 350, or PHIL 322). At least one of the courses other than LEAD 200 and LEAD 400 must not duplicate any requirements of the major, minor, or general education. It is suggested that students select a course from the ethics and social responsibility category to use as the non-duplicated course. For example, if PHIL 320 is used for the Leadership Studies Certificate Program, it could not also be counted as a Category B General Education Elective. However, because other combinations of courses can be used to satisfy the requirement for the Leadership Studies Certificate, the certificate program should be carefully planned in consultation with your academic advisor. A recommended set of course appears below.

Category Leadership Requirement Psychology Course
I. Lead 200
II Ethics & Social Responsibility From list above
III Human Relations PSY 350, 355, 0r 370
IV. Critical Thinking and Empirical Assessment PSY 201/210
