INTRODUCTION TO CLINICAL EXPERIENCE

Course Description:  CD 290 is a one credit lab experience designed to introduce students to clinical observation in the field of communication disorders.  Students will be given the opportunity to obtain required hours of observation for ASHA certification.

Course Requirements:

1.  Twenty-five hours of observation are required for completion of the
     course.  Note:  this is 25 hours, not 25 sessions.

2.  All sessions are to be documented on official observation forms.

3.  Each student is responsible for turning in legible observation forms.  A
     minimum of two observation hours per week is recommended.

4.  Summary sheet of hours must be completed and signed at the end of
     the semester.
 

Course Policies:

1.  Students are responsible for all information covered in posted meetings
     and presented on CourseInfo.  Those without internet access will be
     expected to use computer terminals on campus.

2.  Students are expected to follow all clinic policies and procedures
     during observation sessions.  See Rules for CD 290 Observation
     Students.

3.  You will be evaluated on:  a) Completion of 25 hours of observation; b)
     Completion of documentation; c) Attendance at mandatory meetings;
     and d) Adherence to clinic policies and procedures.
     Grading System:  A = 93-100%; B = 85-92%; C = 77-84%;
     D = 68-76%; F = < 68%.

a.  Become proficient in observation of communication disorders and the
     clinical skills required to treat them.
b.  Demonstrate ability to follow clinic rules and procedures.
c.  Summarize accrued clinical observation hours.
