Before, During, and After Reading Assignment Aid

Reading Assignment: CTW, Chapter 9, pp. 201-214 and Phonics They Use (Phonics), Chapter 13, pp. 169-181

Before reading

Preview both chapters. Note the topic, headings, and subheadings. Also note any similarities between the two chapters.

During reading

Using the split-page notetaking format described here, take notes on both chapters. Here are the instructions for split-page
notetaking: 1)Draw a straight line from top to bottom on a piece of paper approximately 2 to 3 inches from the left edge. Try
to split the page into one third and two thirds. 2) In the left column write big ideas, key terms, and so on. 3) Write supporting
information in the right column.

After reading

Bring your notes to class and be prepared to use them in class. Add any strategies you find beneficial to your Reading Teacher's
Notebook of Strategies. Since these chapters are about assessment, you may choose to make a new section in your notebook.
