Cloze Procedure A cloze procedure is a "fill-in-the-blanks" activity where the learner uses clues from the context to supply words that have been deliberately removed from the text.4
DURING reading strategies During reading activities:
bullet enhance the interactions between the students and the text
bullet allow students to respond personally to works of literature and to explore and compare their responses to those of others 
bullet facilitate students' comprehension

Interest Inventory "An interest inventory is a testing instrument designed for the purpose of measuring and evaluating the level of an individual's interest in, or preference for, a variety of activities; also known as interest test. Testing methods include direct observation of behavior, ability tests, and self-reporting inventories of interest in educational, social, recreational, and vocational activities."

Narrative text tells a story - i.e., Holes by Louis Sachar
Onset-Rime Segmentation  Separating a word into the onset, the consonant(s) at the start of a syllable, and the rime, the remainder of the syllable. For example, in "swift," "sw" is the onset and "ift" is the rime.2
PRE-reading strategies Prereading activities:
bullet activate and build background knowledge on topics or concepts addressed in the book
bullet arouse students' curiosity, and motivate them to read

Praxis action with reflection
Reading Comprehension  The ability to understand written language. Comprehension includes both getting the gist of the meaning and interpreting the meaning by relating it to other ideas, drawing inferences, making comparisons and asking questions about it.2
Tenet a doctrine, principle, belief, or opinion held as true by a school, sect, party or person1
Word Attack  An aspect of reading instruction that includes intentional strategies for learning to decode, sight read, and recognize written words.2
