| NIFL Assessment Strategies and Reading Profiles | This valuable resource provides a MINI-COURSE that walks you through the reading process - including WORD RECOGNITION instruction. You MUST visit, bookmark, and continue to reference this site as you work your way through KAELI. |
| The Reading Pen II contains The American Heritage® College Dictionary. It assists users by providing a definition of the scanned word or line of text, as well as reading both the words and definition aloud using its miniaturized text-to-speech technology. Individual words are enlarged on the display, and words may be spelled out, or broken into syllables. If a person is reading and comes to an unrecognized word, the user can simply scan it, and the word will be spoken. Because of its complete portability, this pocket-sized reading technology can be used where and when needed. (per website) | |
| With access to a number of readability formulas, the Readability Calculations program is indispensable readability software for assessing the reading level of written materials - whether by reading specialists, teachers, trainers, librarians, instructional writers, curriculum writers, policy and procedure writers, technical writers ... | |
| Reading specialists, teachers, trainers, librarians, instructional writers, curriculum writers, policy and procedure writers, technical writers... any persons wanting to (1) identify all words in a document, or (2) identify just the potentially-difficult words, and (3) know how many times each such word occurs in the document. | |
This multimedia
site is designed to help English learners improve their listening
comprehension through a variety of audio and video conversations,
interviews, and news reports. Randall Davis is the sole developer of this
site and has written, recorded, and edited all of the materials as an
independent project at his home. |

| Gedpractice.com is a free service provided by Steck-Vaughn to familiarize you with the types of items you will see on the actual GED test. By answering GED practice questions and getting feedback, you will develop a feel for the kind of reading, thinking, and problem-solving skills you will need to pass the GED test. | |

| Phasing into the new GED. | |
| These are free. You can follow the links to the homepage and find out how for $24.95 you can get TONS more with more options. Either way (free or per membership) these are really NICE! | |
| NOTE: I am NOT wild about worksheets ... but if you can custom design an activity that allows for independent or group PRACTICE or is used in a GAME format, then go for it! This website will generate them for you for FREE. | |
| Modality Questionnaire | Questionnaire and scoring guide to determine learning styles. |
| Anticipation Guides | Students will be introduced to the major ideas of a story or source of information, and how they feel and/or what they know about them. This is a strategy that promotes interest, sets a framework for reading, and encourages higher level thinking towards print and nonprint media. |
| Think-Alouds | By modeling for students the types of behaviors good readers are engaged in as they read, we are providing them with the opportunity to become aware of the many strategies and monitoring behaviors that good readers use. |
