Introduction

Today you are going o a field trip to a farm.  The bus will be here soon so get ready to go and learn amazing things about farm animals, farms, and the people who work on them.

A farm is a place to grow crops and raise animals.

Quest(ions) and the Task

Your task will be to learn all about different types of farms and the animals that live there.  You will choose your favorite farm animal to color and place on our class graph. Then you will write a story about the animal you picked in our writing center. Be prepared to read your story to the class.
You will also use a Venn Diagram to compare and contrast a dairy farm and a fish farm. We will share our findings with each other after everyone has had a chance to travel to the farm.

Process

1. The first stop on our trip will be the kidsfarm to learn about life on a farm.

2. You are now  entering the barn to discover the animals that live there.  Click here to enter the barn. Then click on the animals to learn some interesting facts about their lives.

3.  To hear the sound each farm animal makes click here

4.  Since you have been such a good visitor in the barn and learned all about the animals it is now time to have a little fun.  Click here to find a coloring sheet of your favorite farm animal.  Print the picture, color it, and place the picture on our class graph of Favorite Farm Animals.

5.  Now we are ready to explore different types of farms and the people who work on them.  Click here to travel to the different farms.  After you have learned as much as you can click here to print a Venn Diagram.  Use the information you have just learned to fill in the diagram to compare and contrast a Dairy Farm and a Fish Farm.

6.  We have learned so much today and traveled to many places.  It is time to go to the writing center to write a short story about an animal or type of farm that you visited.  Remember to include pictures with your writing and be ready to share your field trip with the class.
