Task 2

Now that you have found out about your biome, I want you to imagine what your life might be like if you lived in that biome.  You are going to write a short story in which the main character lives in that biome.  The character does not have to be a person.  It may also be a plant or animal.  Demonstrate all that you have learned about your biome through this story.

Remember the five parts of a short story –

Setting – that one is pretty easy.  It will be your biome.  However, we need to see the sights, smell the aromas, hear the noises, and feel the touch of your biome.  Use lots of description to make your setting come alive.

Character – let us know your character well.  What do they look like?  What do they enjoy?  How do they sound?  What do they do?  How do they get along with others?

Plot – Your story has to have action.  There has to be a conflict.  What conflict or problem would your character face in your biome?  How will they solve that problem?

Point-of-view – You can tell your story from first- (I)or third- person (he or she) point of view.  It doesn’t matter – just remember to keep it the same throughout the story.

Theme – What is your story about?  What is the underlying message or idea?  Make sure it is clear to the reader.

Use your imagination and have fun!
