Introduction

You have been choosen to do a documentary on ecosystems of the world. To complete your documentary you will be divided into groups of four and asked to research your ecosystem. It is your job as researchers to take your viewer on an adventure they will never forget.

Task

It will be your job to create a Powerpoint presentation that takes your viewer on an adventure into your ecosystem. You will explore the climate, animals, and plants in your environment. You will show how man has affected the environment and how he/she can preserve the environment for the future generation.

Process

Now that we have teams of researchers, it is you job to begin research on your ecosystem. Click on the box for your ecosystem and let the adventure begin.

Rainforest Tundra

Desert Grassland

Freshwater Ocean

Steps to follow as you research

Before you begin this project, give each of your members one of the following jobs:

Leader--This students will guide the research and give the group on task. This student also guides in make the decision about the finished product. The group must agree with what the product should be in the end.

Researcher--This student will read the material and decide what is important and what might be needed in your presentation.

Writer/Editer--This person records the information and puts it into a format for the viewers to reader and understand.

Illustrator--This person searches for picture and and clip-art that would make the presentation realistic for the viewer.

1. Before beginning your research, you will complete a KWL chart using our unit of study on ecosystems. Click KWL and print your chart. Fill in the K-section with what you know about your ecosystem. In the W-section write things you want to know about your ecosystem. In the L-section take notes while researching your ecosystem.

2. Climate: What are the temperature, precipitation, and seasonal changes like in your ecosystem? How might your viewer have to adapt or adjust in this environment? How is this new environment like or different from the one they live in?

3. Animals: Explore the various types of animals (choose at least 2 different species of animals). Describe the animal and tell how they adapt to their environment and how they depend upon one another.

4. Plants: Explore the plant life in your ecosystem. Name several plants that inhabit the environment and tell how they are beneficial or harmful to man and animals.

5. Research how man has affected the ecosystem. Has he caused the environment to be in danger in any way? Hint: Endangered animals or plants.

6. How might man preserve this environment for future generation? Hint: Conservation.
