Instructor - Volume of Reading

Alright, you are teaching a college class and you just know that the students are not doing the reading you assign in the syllabus.  Why?  Have you asked them?  It could be that they do not know the purpose of the reading or what they are reading to find out or learn.  It could also be that there is simply too much reading and they cannot decipher what to focus on and what to discard.  It could be that the book is not written well, or not easily understood.  This could make it hard for the students to understand the reading assignments.  If any of these issues sound like some of your students’ complaints, then you will want to keep reading.

Below is a list of websites that can link you to publisher(s) of the college textbook for your class and also other websites related to college textbook publishers.  Once you are on these websites, explore them.  You will find links to chapter quizzes, outlines, study guides, and other valuable information that can enable you to help your students succeed in your class.

After looking at all the websites you can do either or both of the following suggestions.

1) Give the students the address of this website:    http://edtech.wku.edu/~ppetty/collegereading.htm.  Ask them to look it up and come to the next class and share two pieces of information from the website that will help them to become more competent college students . . .
