Description |
|
This
Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program has been funded by
the National Science Foundation (NSF) to provide 12 undergraduate interns
with an 8-week summer research experience in lifespan developmental psychology.
Individuals
accepted into the REU program will participate in three types of activities:

Research
Project - Interns will conduct a research project in collaboration
with a faculty mentor.
This experience will culminate in the presentation of the research at a
conference.

Seminars
and Workshops - Interns will attend workshops and special topics seminars
that are designed to help them gain the technical knowledge and skills
needed to successfully complete their research projects.

Group
Activities - Interns will interact with other REU interns, with current
graduate students in psychology, and with all of the faculty mentors at
REU group meetings and at planned social events and outings.

| Eligibility |

Applicants
must have successfully completed an introductory psychology course and
at least two psychology content courses (e.g., developmental psychology,
cognitive psychology, learning, perception, physiological psychology, social
psychology). Completion of a statistics course and/or a course in experimental
psychology is recommended, though not required. Students completing their
first year of undergraduate training and those graduating in the year preceding
the program will not be eligible, nor will those who have a cumulative
grade point averge below a B. Preference will be given to students who
plan to attend graduate school and who are highly recommended by the psychology
faculty at their university.

Members
of racial or ethnic minority groups and first-generation college students
are especially encouraged to apply.

The
REU program is a 40-hour per week commitment and may obligate participants
to some evening and weekend hours. Participants may not enroll in classes
or have other employment during the period of the REU program.

NSF
requires that participants in the REU program be citizens or permanent
residents of the United States or its possessions

| Compensation |
|
REU
interns will receive a salary ($2400), lodging, and meals. |
| Lodging/Meals |
|
Interns
will stay in a dormatory on WKU's campus and will be provided with a food allowance. The dormatory is located in close proximity to psychology laboratories and to the downtown area of Bowling Green.

| Travel
Allowance |
|
Limited
funds will be available for reimbursement of expenses associated with travel
to a conference to present research findings. Receipts for all expenses
must be included in the request for reimbursement. |

| Evaluation
of applications will begin on February 1, 2008. Incomplete applications will
not be considered. Applicants will be notified of their acceptance into
the program by no later than April 3, 2008. |
